“The Bread Bench” for a comprehensive Bread-Making Workshop

We’re thrilled to announce that we are now offering hands-on bread making workshops at Cradle.

Each workshop will be led by both Holly & Gaby. With over 20 years professional baking experience between us, we will guide you through the bread-making process, providing you with all the knowledge you need to make affordable, healthy sourdough and yeasted breads at home, reducing your reliance on highly-processed convenience foods.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Basic Bread Science:

  • Understanding the essential ingredients
  • The science of gluten development and fermentation
  • Different types of flour and their applications

Bread Techniques:

  • Mixing, Folding & Shaping
  • Proofing & Baking
  • Inclusions and adaptations

Variety of Breads:

  • Sourdough Loaf
  • Sourdough Focaccia
  • Quick & Easy Yeasted Loaf
  • Sourdough Discard Crackers

Troubleshooting and Tips:

  • Identifying and correcting common bread making problems
  • Tips for altering your baking schedule to fit into a busy life

WHATS INCLUDED IN THE COURSE

Along with all the knowledge you’ll gain, you’ll also go home with a sourdough starter, recipes, some of your bread ready to bake in your own oven and freshly baked breads.

The purpose of this course is to GET YOU BAKING! At the end of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to join our online community baking group, to share your success stories and troubleshoot any issues you may be having.

You’ll also be served a light, freshly made seasonal supper and refreshments so please notify us of any dietary requirements.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

Sustainability and underconsumption is very important to us, we’ll be teaching you how to bake using what you already have in your kitchen.

For the class we do ask that you bring an empty jar for your starter culture, a 2lb loaf tin or banneton (both can be purchased on the day if needed, if you don’t have either and you want to use what you already have you can bring a bowl, email us a picture before class to make sure it is suitable) a note pad and pen and a large bag / box to carry your loaves home.

FUNDED SPACES AVAILABLE

Access to new skills and food that is good for your health is something everyone should have access to. This is why we it was a priority to us to have funded spaces on our course. If you would like one of these spots please get in touch for more information.

Terms and Conditions

Health and Safety

We ask that you wear flat shoes with no open toe. If you have any injuries or open wounds please let us know at the start of the class, we can provide blue plasters. We will provide aprons but suggest wearing clothes you don’t mind getting a bit dough-y!

Food Allergies

We are a vegan establishment as well as peanut free. Please let us know of any allergies or intolerances at the time of booking, if you don’t let us know, we cannot guarantee the course will be suitable for you and we will not be able to offer a refund on the day

Cancellations by us

If for any reason we need to cancel a class, we will let you know as soon as possible, we will offer to reschedule for a later date- or a full refund can be given

Cancellations or no shows

If you are unable to attend a course please tell us as soon as possible, we will only be able to offer a refund if a replacement is found, we will not be able to reschedule you in case of cancellation or a no show for the class

Funded space no shows

In the case of a no show we will not be able to rebook you for a future class. If you need to cancel please let us know with as much time as possible so we can offer the space to someone else.

Learning Support, Pregnancy, Disabilities

Please let us know of any additional help or requirements you may need; we want to make this space as comfortable as we can for all attendees so we will do our best to accommodate

Phone usage and content sharing

You are more than welcome to take pictures of yourself and your bakes, please do not take any pictures of instructors or class attendees without permission, we want to keep this a safe and comfortable space so please use your phone sparingly.
