We’re proud to announce that we’ve begun work on Cradle’s very own permaculture garden! Located just 3 miles out of Sudbury in a clearing in a protected woodland, we’ve been building fences, reclaimed sheds, greenhouses, compost heaps and raised beds ready to start growing Cradle’s own food.
Permaculture is an approach for designing gardens, farms and human settlements to meet the needs of the earth and humans in the long term. Permaculture itself is not a specific agricultural technique, but rather a mindset and approach to growing food and living cooperatively with nature, combined with guiding principles to help people put these ideas into action.
The 16,000 trees that make up the woodland were planted in 2002 by the land owners as part of an initiative to create continuous woodland, known as JIGSAW (Joining and Increasing Grant Scheme for Ancient Woodlands).
